IT'S 2022!

Hello! It’s been a while…

Sometimes life hits, big changes happen, or the priority shits a bit and somethings have to give! After writing a blog pretty consistently for a year and a half and then coming to a halt, I’ve decided it’s time to take you all back on this life journey with me!

As the world is shifting again and there seems to be a glimpse of hope in regular life, I’m getting my feet wet again, and jumping back into the blog pool. My first thoughts are to give you all an update on the property!

We spent our first year (last year) enjoying and experiencing everything living out of town has to offer. I know owning land is pretty common to most here in the Peace Region however, to us, it’s a whole new way of life!

There’s nothing i love more than watching the moose in our yard, hearing the cows in the pasture across the road during the summer months, have a fox run past my bedroom window, seeing the neighbouring ski hill light up like a Christmas tree in the winter , morning coffee on the back deck or the smell and the noise of wood crackling in our wood fireplace during the cold -30 days. New family traditions soaking in the hot tub on Friday nights looking at the stars and sitting around a bonfire with a glass of wine listening to country music visiting with our favourite people.

But with all the good times we’ve enjoyed there has also been many many challenges and new ways of life we have had to adjust to.

  • plowing the driveway

  • the endless leaves covering the ground in the spring and fall,

  • the rodents

  • hauling water, having no water and learning how to restart our water pump

  • removing our own garbage and recycling.

  • Oh and did I already mention the rodents!

BUT, like I said it’s been an adjustment and I wouldn’t trade the experience for any other.

We’re building our future here and we have a place to call home for the next 10 years or forever and that is all worth it for me!

So what is the plan?

What are we doing with this place and the granaries?

Well if you know me, you know my plans are always shifting, but I do believe that saying it out loud and writing it out will help me manifest the dream.

The plan is to have AM Interiors office/head quarters in the granaries, to create a space that can be used as a place to rent to the public, stay in as a mini vacation, host small events, and be the home of AM Interiors

What will that look like? I’m not entirely sure, this is the part we’re still working out.

We have a lot of property work to do, and when I say property I mean yard/ground work. Clearing dead trees, shaping the different areas of the yard to suit our needs. Original owners of this property did a beautiful job of landscaping and we would love to unearth all of that beauty but with our short season to work outside and our busy schedules it will take sometime!

Like many of you, over the winter we’ve had some in-house projects we wanted to complete.

We did a overhaul in my sons room and created a hockey theme as per his request. New paint, new blinds, area rug, wall mural, a new night stand, light, décor and new bench seat cover to helped me execute the theme. All the details on that room makeover coming soon!

Our 2nd project is the main bathroom or Kids bathroom I like to call it. Its situated between the kids rooms, it has a good layout with a pocket door access into one of the kids rooms. The bathroom was original design and materials and finishes from the house, so it was outdated but I also needed to squeeze a double sink vanity in there for my 3 kids.

We decided to go with all new tile throughout ( shower, and floor included) a new vanity, updated lighting and a fresh paint colour. More info on the bathroom renovation to come!

What does spring summer and fall look like around here?

Well, we have some ground to cover (pun intended) we’d like to get the dug-out looking beautiful again, which means taking down the fence that surrounds it and clearing all the over grown trees that have been taking over said space through the past decade. And this same thing applies to many areas around the property, clearing more trees to develop this land a bit more for our future plans.
