Is defined as a gathering place for family to join in hter.

The one place you will always be surrounded by those who love you a place of feeling or belonging.

Is the Home the place? The structure itself? Or is it the place you create memories with the people you love, the place that holds the things you will cherish forever?

The love, happiness, sadness you feel inside your home is that from the people you are surrounded by or the place itself?

Your favourite chair, your childs first step, a favourite blanket, or a piece of moulding with your grandchildren’s heights scratched into it, these are the things that make a “house” someones home.

Your home is the place you brought your new born baby from the hospital to, that back bedroom window has a crack from your son throwing a baseball through it, you planted and watched trees grow for the past 20 years, you hosted large family gatherings, or maybe it has simply been a place you found comfort in after coming home from a long day.

What does your home mean to you?

  • What do you look for in a home?

  • Do you like to take a risk?

  • Do you see the potential in a property or do you like to see everything done, move-in ready!

  • When you purchase a home is it meant for right now? or will you be able to grow into it years down the road?

  • There are so many things to consider when purchasing a home.

  • It can single handledly be the largest investment of your life! Its not to be taken lightly.

What are some things you look for today when buying a house?

  • Open concept

  • Location location location

  • yard

  • driveway/garage

  • privacy

  • homestyle - rancher? are there stairs? could I live on one level if I couldn’t use the stairs any longer?

  • Is this house going to suit my growing family?

  • Is this house going to function for me when my family has left the nest?

Craftsman

This style of home was very popular in the early 1900’s and is making a come back today. One distinguishing feature is the large amount of interior wood work built in shelving and seating. As for the exterior, Craftsman-style homes often have low-pitched roofs with wide eave overhangs, decorative beams or braces under gables, and porches framed by tapered square columns.

Rancher

This style of home was one of the most popular styles between the 1950’s - 60’s built in most suburban areas. This high efficient home was built with an attached garage and simple floor plans.Although they may appear plain or cookie-cutter on the outside, ranch-style homes offer great potential for additions. Bilevel and trilevel homes evolved from the ranch style and were built during the same era.

Contemporary or West Coast

This style of home is very popular in costal communities. Referring specifically to architect-designed homes built from about 1950 to 1970, the term "contemporary" is a wide range of houses built in recent decades that concentrate on simple forms and geometric lines.

Many contemporary design plans offer open concepts lots of glass and innovative designs. This style of home often has flat or low pitched roofs with the use of high contrasting materials.

Traditional / Farm house

This is probably one of my personal favourite styles. The traditional elements like wrap around porches, dormers, and shutters I can’t get enough of. Traditional materials like rock, wood and simple complimentary elements are commonly used through out these home style. Today you will see a modern twist on a lot of traditional or farmhouse style homes using some more contrasting colours like this one gives it a more modern twist on a traditional style.

My Journey

I have lived in many houses in my short life, all types, all shapes and sizes. I have lived in Prince Rupert where I grew up, all over the Okanagan, and now Dawson Creek. When my husband and I purchased our first home I remember not really knowing what to expect, then soon after we grew out of it as our family multiplied and we bought another house. Neither house was ideal for our family but we made it work and now we have sold the big one and we are back in our first house we purchased. NEVER thought that would happen, but as life evolves and changes you want different things and priorities change and this is exactly what happened with us. We are finished growing our family and we have a pretty clear image what we want our future to look like.

We are currently looking for property in our town and want to renovate a home on a perfect property for us and we can’t wait until that happens. We have spent some time fixing our current home and making it perfect for its next owners that will make it their “home” and soon will be putting it on the market!

SO STAY TUNED FOR THAT!!!!
