I have been doing work for Interior Design Services since 1990 when I moved to Dawson Creek and met Fern and Lana. I worked for IDS until the time we left Dawson in 1994 (way too early, husband with itchy feet!). Over the next 22 years I did work for Lana and Interior Design Services even though I no longer lived in Dawson Creek. We got to be very clever with people travelling to and from and the bus and postal service. She showed me how to run a business successfully, with respect and grace and she is one of my best friends to this day. When Lana sold IDS to Alison Morgan(Procter), I assumed the relationship was over, but I was wrong and Alison and I continue to have a working relationship. We have, however, to be a little more creative with transportation as Greyhound is no longer in business!
I have been doing upholstery work on and off since I learned the trade as a teenager working in Terrace, BC, for a Manpower program in 1978-1982. My mentor, employer and second father was Spud (Raymond) Schaeffer and he taught me the all he knew about upholstery and life. Over the years I continued to learn and gain experience and in 2010 I took the big leap and quit my day job and formed Lanita's Upholstery. One box of business cards and 9 years later I have a thriving business with a great reputation. Life is good.
