Design Styles

Homes and design styles are my favourite thing. My husband and I love to drive around and look at homes in different cities and different communities. Anybody else? I remember doing this with my parents as a kid ( before the internet of course) and dreaming of what my future home might look like. I have always enjoyed, wood, character, built ins, history, brick… In Prince Rupert where I group up the homes dated back to the the early 1900’s and those are some of my favourites! Wrap around porch, original hardwood floors, little nooks, window seats, coffered ceilings and small details everywhere you looked. Every house my husband and I have purchased has had some kind of “feature” in it that sold the house for us, there is always something that catches your eye in a home. What are those special features for you? Which home style is your favourite?

Craftsman

Who doesn’t love a little bit of character of a little piece of history when looking for a forever home? Well craftsman homes have both!

These style of homes are best known for having open concept floor-plans. On the outside you can tell a house is a craftsman because they have columns that support the roof, a front porch that is covered, and multi-pane windows are some of the many details that make the exterior look like a craftsman home. Craftsman style homes have high design quality and craftsmanship that make them everlasting homes!

Log Homes

Have you ever been to a mountain ski chalet or a cabin at the lake? If so you know exactly what walking into a log home feels like.

Simple or luxurious log homes have one thing in common, they have that wonderful woof smell that makes you want to cozy up in front of the fire with a warm blanket. Rooms filled of natural light this home style is nothing but calming and relaxing.

Nothing beats the feel of spending a cold evening by the fireplace, sipping hot chocolate in your very own log home!

Mediterranean

Have you ever watched a movie based in Italy or Spain and dreamed of having a home like the ones you see in the movie? Mediterranean homes can do that for you!

Terra cotta roofs and brick or stucco painted white are key characteristics that go into this design. The detail in the metal work and raw iron add a little something extra to these homes. Movies had a heavy impact on the popularity of these homes because many movies in the 1920’s and 1930’s featured the romantic Mediterranean set that the stars and viewers wanted!

Mediterranean homes are simply stunning!

West Coast & Modern

West coast style homes and modern style homes have very similar design characteristics and are very similar in their ways of being eco-friendly! Both home styles use open floor-plan layouts, eco-friendly materials, and bring a lot of natural light in. Modern homes are becoming a favourite among the millennial because they are low maintenance, using spaces for dual purposes, and they can save money while being environmentally smart. West coast homes are being seen everywhere, including Malibu. The iconic Jennifer Lopez just put her dreamy Malibu beach house on the market!

Modern Farmhouse

The modern farmhouse is slowly starting pop up everywhere! This style of home can be seen most places these days and it’s even done by some of our favourite home flippers, Chip and Joanna Gaines! Modern farmhouse takes the same comfortable and relaxed style that you see in the traditional farmhouse style but it adds those slight modern touches of smith lines, neutral colour schemes, and glossy accents.

This style is definitely a favourite of mine!
